A Little Break
This is normally the day that you get a podcast episode in your inbox around 5pm. However, The Religious Rebels Podcast is going to be taking a little break while I finish up summer and start school. It will be back for a five episode series on faith reconstruction before another little break around the holidays. Then I plan on starting Season Two in January, 2025.
I’ve got a lot of creative ideas going on right now, including writing a proposal for a new book, and I’ve come to the difficult decision that I can’t do everything—at least not well. So, podcasting is the thing I am setting aside for a while.
Faith Reconstruction
I’ve had conversations with people, in real life and online, who are hungry for stories of someone who has or is reconstructing their faith. There has been a huge focus on faith deconstruction lately—positively and negatively. Many people who deconstruct leave Christianity or find a progressive form of it that feels safer to them. But not everyone who deconstructs wants to leave the faith. And not everyone is comfortable with progressive Christianity.
I’ve landed in a space that feels progressive to some and way too orthodox to others. I want to intentionally share my journey, without giving steps or formulas, so that people who are looking to walk the awkward middle way might have a few guideposts to follow if they so desire. This is my heart behind the upcoming five-part series on faith reconstruction. Expect the first episode to land sometime in late September. I’ll keep you posted.
Until Then
Many of you may not know that I had another podcast called Looking for the Real God before doing the Religious Rebels Podcast. It has 170 short episodes and it is currently hosted here on Substack. The first few are a bit cringy as I got used to sharing my voice, but they get better as time goes on. Haha!
You can listen on Substack, Podbean, or anywhere you listen to podcasts. I’m going to link four of the more recent most popular episodes.
I had someone call me an advocate for the first time this past week while I was on a podcast with them: “A spiritual abuse advocate.” It took me by surprise initially, but then I realized that it is true. I long to push back and expose spiritual and religious abuse, while gently directing anyone seeking to the Real Jesus—the Jesus I’ve found and who has totally transformed my life.
Thanks for being here and for supporting the work I am doing. I appreciate you!
As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts, questions, or comments. You can find me on Threads, Instagram, Facebook, my website, and on my podcast Looking for the Real God. I’d love to connect with you on any of these places!
My new podcast, Religious Rebels, can be found on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart Radio, and more. New episodes drop every other Sunday at noon on YouTube and 5pm on Substack and everywhere you listen to podcasts.
You can also order an autographed copy of my book, Religious Rebels: Finding Jesus in the Awkward Middle Way by clicking on the button below. Or you can find it on Amazon.
For me it's pretty simple: I am.a follower of Jesus and I read and study my Bible. I believe that my personal relationship with Jesus comes first before demonimations amd titles. I also think it's vital amd great to take breaks. Love that you are doing this.
I’m so excited for this! I have been reading Rescuing the Gospel from the Cowboys by Richard Twiss and pondering how to disentangle myself from the western-centric hegemony of Christian culture—and in the same vein, how to discover and practice life giving traditions that I have not necessarily inherited.
I so appreciate your posture of vulnerability, and your willingness to peer into the mystery with us.
